Partials

Serving patients of Erwin, Jonesborough, and Greeneville, TN

Living with multiple lost teeth affects your lifestyle. Lost teeth make it more difficult to eat and chew, which can make it a challenge to maintain proper nutrition. Your self-esteem also can be affected by missing teeth, especially if they are located in visually prominent areas of the mouth. Why not restore your smile, and lower your risk of some of the oral health problems that come from living with missing teeth, by replacing your missing teeth with a partial denture provided by your Greeneville cosmetic dentists at Tusculum Dental Care.

What is a partial denture?

A partial denture is a removable, prosthetic tooth replacement. Like a full set of dentures, a partial must be removed to be cleaned, and also should be taken out before going to sleep. A partial denture can be used to replace multiple missing teeth, as long as they are on the same dental arch. Unlike a dental bridge, a partial can be used to replace missing teeth that are not adjacent to one another in the mouth.

After an experienced and well-trained cosmetic dentist has installed your partial denture, you regain your ability to eat and chew normally. Moreover, your smile no longer has any unsightly gaps, which may have made you self-conscious or embarrassed to smile.

Partial Denture Options

The Greeneville dentists at Tusculum Dental Care can install any one of three different kinds of partial dentures. Each partial will provide replacement teeth that can be matched to the shape and color of your other remaining natural teeth.

  • Metal: A metal framework is covered by an acrylic base, which is matched to the color of your gum line to blend in seamlessly with your mouth. Prosthetic teeth are bonded to the base. The partial denture fits into the mouth thanks to a set of metal clasps, which are attached to the edge of the metal framework. A metal partial denture is the strongest partial that currently is available.
  • Metal-free: If you have a metal allergy, or want to obtain the most comfortable type of partial denture that is available, consider this type of partial. A metal-free partial is flexible. It also weighs less, and will not irritate the gums and mouth because of the absence of the metal clasps. The base of a flexible partial is pink in color, similar to your natural gums.
  • ERA attached: Are you living with missing teeth as well as dexterity issues? Consider an ERA (standing for extracoronal precision attachment) partial. This tooth replacement option is an ideal treatment choice for patients who may have problems placing and removing a partial denture because of limited dexterity or the location of the missing teeth.
